Next Steps for Newly Admitted Transfer Students

You've accepted your admittance to the University of South Carolina. Now what?

All new USC students, including new transfer students, must attend a new student orientation session. You will meet with you academic advisor during orientation to choose courses for the upcoming semester and to register for classes. Use the resources below to ensure you are prepared for your orientation advisement session:

  1. View upcoming transfer orientation sessions and register to attend one.

  2. Watch the Pre-Orientation Advising videos before attending orientation. These videos will explain how you will work with your academic advisor at orientation and throughout the academic year.

  3. Complete your Pre-Orientation Advising Worksheet and bring it with you to your advising session at orientation.

Chances are you will be bringing previous coursework with you to South Carolina. To help you complete your pre-orientation advising worksheet, you may want to use the resources below to see how your credit may be articulated on your USC transcript.

Any prior coursework previously submitted to USC will be reviewed and articulated onto your USC transcript. You can audit your progress toward your selected degree anytime by viewing your degree audit in DegreeWorks. DegreeWorks is housed in Self-Service Carolina. Learn more about DegreeWorks and how to interpret your degree audit by watching the short help videos below.

A Major Map is a layout of required courses in a given program of study, including a suggested course sequence, that ensures a clear path to graduation. To view your major map, search for your major in the Major Map Repository. Make sure you select the appropriate catalog year before searching (i.e. 2018-2019 for a student admitted during the 2018-2019 academic year).

Resources for Prospective Transfer Students

If you are considering transferring to the University of South Carolina, check out these resources for evaluating how prior coursework may transfer.

Determine how any transfer work could apply to your USC record by using the course equivalency table. Note: equivalencies are not guarantees and all degree applicability should be discussed with your academic advisor.

A major map is a layout of required courses in a given program of study, including critical courses and suggested course sequence, to ensure a clear path to graduation. Search the major map repository by your intended major to see which courses you'll need to graduate with a bachelor's degree.

If you are currently attending a South Carolina technical college, learn how your course credits may transfer to USC. Have questions? Talk with your technical college academic advisor.
